Hi! I’m Dana, a Clinical Nutritionist with a firm belief and trust in the ability of the human body to restore itself to balance and health, given the right tools and support. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biology & Socialization from Mount Holyoke College, and my Master of Science degree in Human Clinical Nutrition & Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health.
After an emergency room visit at age 9, I was referred to an allergist, who told me that I had suddenly become allergic to trees, grasses, insects, cats, dogs, and a whole host of other things that I had previously had constant and uneventful contact with. Over the years, the list of items grew to include fragrances and some of my favorite foods, eventually leading to a diagnosis of Autoimmune Urticaria and Angioedema. I was repeatedly told that my condition had nothing to do with what I was eating or how I was living, but that it just ‘happens to young women in this country’.
That statement set off research ‘alarm bells’ in my mind, and I eventually came across a study linking my diagnosis to gluten intolerance. Even then, I was discouraged from hoping for any change in my condition. Within 2 months of going gluten-free, I was off of all nine of my medications, I was symptom-free, and on the verge of discovering my passion and calling- to help others walk in wellness. My clinical experience focuses on environmental allergies, food allergies & intolerances, autoimmune diseases, detoxification support, and gut health.
I believe that progress matters more than perfection, because if we make our goals unattainable, or put our lives on hold until everything is ‘perfect’, then we miss out on the beauty of being human. I also believe very strongly that food is much more than the sum of its parts. Food delivers a message to the cells of our body. Sometimes we can find ourselves eating foods that don’t deliver decipherable messages because of how altered they are, and sometimes we may find that our bodies are not accurately deciphering messages from our food because of stress, deficiencies, genetics, etc.
My goal is to walk alongside you and to serve as a resource as we navigate your health journey together. I want you to be able to learn what your body is trying to communicate to you and how to respond accordingly. You are a unique individual, and your nutrition education, guidance, and recommendations will be made with your preferences and particular qualities in mind. We will take changes one step at a time, to give your body a chance to respond and for you to integrate the changes into your daily life in a sustainable way. I so look forward to working with you!
